Entrapment Avoidance High-Sided Bed Rail Bumpers with Closed Ends
Many patients who require targeted pressure relief use mattress overlays, raising the height of the mattress and therefore requiring higher bed rails to ensure the patient is not at risk of falling out. The Entrapment Avoidance High-Sided Bed Rail Bumpers with Closed Ends are compatible with high-sided bed rails, ensuring patients are safe from accidental entrapment or injury from harsh contact throughout the night.

Why Should I Use Bedside Bumpers?
A study based on the NPSA’s National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS) estimated 1,250 reports of injuries from striking or trapping limbs in bedrails are made every twelve months from hospitals and mental health units in England and Wales. The Medicines and Health Care Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have had reports of 21 bedrail related deaths from 2000 – 2006. Bedside bumpers have been specifically designed to reduce the number of injuries and deaths related to bedside railings entrapment.
Who Could Benefit From Bedside Rail Bumpers?
- Patients using mattress overlays or with high-sided rails
- Patients with epilepsy
- Elderly patients vulnerable to falls
- Those who suffer from excessive bruising (ecchymosis)
- Patients who suffer from confusion, agitation or delirium
- Anyone who experiences repetitive or involuntary movements
- People with high or low body mass (which may change entrapment risks)
- People with variable levels of consciousness, or those under sedation
Are the Bedside Rail Bumpers Easy to Fit?
These bumpers use easy-to-fit hook and loop fastenings along the bottom edge making them straightforward and effortless to set up and secure. The fastening on the bottom edge prevents anyone from accidentally unhooking it, helping to improve patient safety.
Prevent Entrapment and Reduce Risk of Bruising
Patients who suffer from involuntary movements or seizures can easily get their arms trapped in between bed rails or cause limb injury from harsh contact with the rails throughout the night. High-sided padded bumpers remove the risk of injury from harsh contact and create a seal to prevent patients pushing their limbs between the bed sides and mattress.
Wipe Clean Material for Effortless Maintenance
Accidents and spillages are common occurrences and it is essential to invest in bumpers that repel liquids or food to prolong their life. These Bumpers are manufactured from a hydrophobic, wipe-clean material that does not absorb liquids or spillages, ensuring maintenance is fast and easy.
High-Sided Bumpers for Additional Protection
These Entrapment Avoidance Bumpers are compatible with high-sided bed rails, often in use with patients who require a mattress overlay. With a height of 96cm these bumper provide comprehensive coverage over the entirety of the rail, ensuring patients are not at risk of injury or entrapment throughout the night or whilst unsupervised.
Closed Ends for Complete Coverage
To ensure your patients have no risk of impact with hard surfaces, these bumpers feature additional closed ends to ensure that the bed rails are not exposed. This provides comprehensive coverage and complete protection from bruising or injury.
What Size Bumpers Do I Need?
These Conventional Bed Rail Bumpers are designed to fit bed rails that are 134cm or 183cm long with high sides of 96cm high. Both sizes provide good coverage and protection, however if your patient or loved one is taller in height or at a higher risk of getting their lower limbs caught in bed rails, then the larger of the two sizes would be most suitable.
