Stratus Alternating Air Pressure Relief Cushion System

Patients at risk of pressure sores will require a pressure-relieving cushion to distribute their weight evenly, but static foam cushions often won't provide sufficient relief. The Stratus Alternating Air Pressure Relief Wheelchair Cushion (Without Pump) has been designed for those at a high to very high risk of developing pressure sores, combining a foam pad and alternating air cells encased in soft multi-spandex for excellent pressure relief, shear reduction and comfort.

What's Included?

Key Features

  • Includes both the cushion and pump to prevent pressure sores
  • Combines foam with air cells for pressure relief and stability
  • Ideal for those needing pressure relief
  • Suitable for those at high to very high risk of pressure ulcer developments
  • Features foam on the front edge to increase cushion height
  • Designed with a scalloping front for extra leg comfort
  • Supplied with a water-resistant, vapour-permeable cover
  • Allows cushion and your skin to breathe
  • Parallel cells inflate alternately every four to six minutes
  • Automatically re-positions you in your chair
  • Allows blood to circulate to the skin
  • Reduces the risk of decubitus pressure ulcers from forming
  • Can be worn on all kinds of chairs (This does not include recliners)

How Does an Air Alternating Cushion Work?

The cushion is constructed with parallel cells that inflate alternately every four to six minutes. The cells are configured in an A, B, A, B, A, B layout, meaning that when all the A cells inflate, the B cells deflate, whereas when the B cells inflate, the A cells deflate. This means that the patient is automatically re-positioned so blood can circulate to the skin, which in turn reduces the risk of decubitus pressure ulcers forming.

Dynamic Pressure Relief

The Alternating Pressure Relief Cushion System is designed to relieve pressure from the buttocks. The support is suitable for use when you need respite relief from your bed and need to be transferred to a chair.

Comfortable Construction

The Stratus Alternating Air Cushion System uses foam at the front edge of the cushion to increase the overall height, with scalloping for extra leg comfort. This cushion is supplied complete with a water-resistant, vapour-permeable cover. This protects the inner workings of the cushion from spillages and urine, ensuring it functions correctly and at its best.

Suitable for Use at Home or in Care Settings

The Alternating Air Pressure Relief Cushion is suitable for use in both domestic and professional care environments. This means that even when you're attending hospital appointments, you don't have to suffer from the build-up of pressure on the buttocks.

Is the Stratus Air Pressure Cushion Suitable for Recliner Chairs?

No, due to the inflating, pressure relief design of the Stratus Air Pressure Cushion, it is not suitable for reclining chairs.

Supplied with Waterproof Cover

With its water-resistant and vapour-permeable cover, the Stratus Alternating Air Cushion is a convenient and hygienic solution to your needs. The design of the cushion helps prevent painful rashes or ulcers forming on your skin, while remaining breathable throughout use.

Pressure Relief Category

The pressure relief rating is for guidance only and does not constitute a medical opinion. Please consult your GP, consultant or physiotherapist in order to obtain a medical opinion as to which pressure relief cushion is most suitable for your requirements before purchasing. A pressure relief cushion is not an alternative to appropriate nursing care, but should instead be used as a part of a wider care system
