Targeted Pressure Relief for Heels

According to Wound Management and Prevention, heels are among the most common areas where pressure ulcers can form as they are exposed to friction, moisture and concentrated force when laying in bed for extended periods of time. By placing a soft and cushioning layer around your foot, pressure is taken off the heel and proper circulation is promoted, preventing the formation of sores.

Soft and Luxurious Fleece Material

Manufactured from pure wool pile, these protective additions shield your foot with a luxurious coating of plush and soft fibres, keeping you cosy and comfortable. Wool is known to uphold exemplary pressure relieving properties, whilst also ensuring complete comfort, allowing you to remain pain free and fully rested.

Heat Retention and Temperature Regulating Properties

These protective slippers are made for long-term use for extended periods, so breathability is essential to reduce overheating or perspiration. Wool displays excellent heat retention whilst also maintaining temperature regulation, allowing your foot to stay warm in winter and cool in summer, adjusting to your body heat to remain at a comfortable level.

What Are Pressure Sores?

Pressure sores are injuries to the tissue underneath the skin. They are primarily caused by prolonged force on the skin and are frequently found in people who are confined to a single position for a long period of time. Consistent downward pressure can cause the tissue under the skin to die due to concentrated force on peak pressure points, causing sores and ulcers to form.

Why Is Pressure Relief Important?

Pressure builds up in the legs and feet, which can lead to the formation of ulcers and sores if left untreated, causing vulnerable areas to form that can burst and split when they come into contact with a blanket, duvet or mattress. These ulcers are common in the heels as this is a particularly bony part of the body. If pressure is reduced early enough using the correct treatment, sores and ulcers can be prevented and at the very least, managed.

Who Can Benefit From Pressure Relief?

Anyone assessed as being susceptible to ulcers or sores can benefit from pressure relief. If you have pre-existing pressure sores it is vital that you relieve pressure and contact with the sores to allow them to heal.

What Do Pressure Relief Fleece Heel Protectors Do?

Fleeced Heel Protectors work to cushion the sore area and prevent any exterior contact worsening their condition. They use a fleeced material to cushion the heel, thus preventing sores from opening up or being irritated. This helps when you sleep, because you move subconsciously and are unable to control your movements. Heel Protectors prevent friction, shear forces and abrasion from splitting and bursting pressure sores, allowing you to relax and sleep in peace.

Supplied in a Single Size to Suit Most Users

The Fleeced Heel Protectors feature an adjustable, velcro strap which means one-size-fits-most, ensuring a stable and secure fit. To tighten or loosen the protector, simply adjust the tension on the strap until comfortable.

Keeping Your Heel Protectors In Place

Thorpe Mill Heel Protectors are designed to provide a soft and comfortable base for your heels whilst you relax on your bed or sofa. They provide a loose fit that is designed to cradle the heel. They are not designed to stay rigidly in place, as any "hard contact" may actually cause more bursting or rubbing. If your Heel Protectors sit comfortably against your heel and allow a generous amount of foot movement, you are wearing them correctly.

Can I Wash My Heel Protectors?

Pressure relief aids that stay in close contact with your body for extended periods of time must prioritise effortless maintenance and easy sanitation. The Heel Pressure Relief Fleece Protectors can be machine washed at 40°C. We recommend that you use a non-biological detergent to ensure your lifelong product stays softer for longer.
