This evacuation sheet has been expertly designed for patients of all ages who would be physically incapable of arising from their bed and walking away from an emergency with or without aids.
How Does the Emergency Evacuation Overlay Work?
The Emergency Evacuation Overlay is to be used permanently on top of a traditional sprung mattress as a precautionary measure, with the smooth PVC coated side facing down. Large tucks on both sides of the overlay can be used to secure it in place on the mattress, fastening beneath to ensure stability despite movement. In the case of an emergency, these tucks are undone, allowing caregivers to use pulling straps toward the head and base to transport patients.
How Do You Secure a Patient to the Overlay?
The Emergency Overlay has been expertly designed for stable and safe removal of patients. To secure the patient to the overlay, place their feet and lower legs into the large pocket at the base of the mattress, use the tucks to create cocooning flaps around the body of the patient, fastening the security belts and buckles firmly. The adjustable straps allow you to alter the sizing of the fastening accordingly, depending on the patient's size.
How Should the Evacuation Overlay Be Operated?
When an emergency presents itself and the patient has been secured, caregivers should lower the bed close to the floor, using the looped straps on either end to rotate the mattress 90° and gently pull the mattress onto the floor. From here, you can efficiently slide the patient down narrow corridors and stairs, avoiding harsh impact and agitation. Two people are required to operate the Emergency Evacuation Overlay.
Is the Evacuation Overlay Comfortable During Evacuations?
The Emergency Evacuation Overlay is expertly designed for vulnerable or frail patients who might be sensitive to impact or aggressive movements. The overlay is designed to transport patients on top of their mattress, allowing the 90mm high specification foam to absorb shock and impact should there be any uneven surfaces. With proper operation, your patient will remain comfortable and stable.
How Do You Clean the Emergency Evacuation Overlay?
The Evacuation Overlay is reusable and durable thanks to its wipe-clean fabric and removeable, machine washable cover. The Overlay should be cleaned regularly, including in between patients. For effortless maintenance, simply wipe the surface clean with disinfectant or soap and water, rinsing and drying thoroughly. Alternatively wash the Overlay cover up to 60°C for just 15 minutes and tumble dry on a low heat setting.
