Connected Bedside Bumpers with Third Rail Extension

The padded, Connected Bedside Bumpers with Third Rail Extension are a suitable and versatile solution to keeping your loved ones or vulnerable patients injury-free. Entrapment and bruising can be a common problem with patients suffering from a number of conditions. With these wipe-clean, connected bedside bumpers you're able to fully secure both two and three rail beds to ensure there are minimal risks for frail patients.

What's Included?

  • 1 x Pair of Connected Bedside Bumpers

What Do Bed Bumpers Do?

Bed rail bumpers are designed to prevent impact injuries by padding bed rails and securing gaps in between. They are essential for patients who move around frequently through confusion, involuntary movements or seizures and are prone to bruising from impact with hard surfaces. They also prevent patients from getting limbs caught in the rails by covering up open spaces.

Key Benefits and Features

  • Extra height allows it to be fitted to beds with a third rail extension
  • Highly permeable base sheet greatly reduces suffocation risk
  • Flame resistant foam reduces the risk of fires
  • Soft inner padding reduces risk of injury to patients
  • Produced to MHRA anti-entrapment specifications
  • Easy to clean fabric promotes hygienic conditions

Why Should I Use Bedside Bumpers?

A study based on the NPSA’s National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS) estimated 1,250 reports of injuries from striking or trapping limbs in bedrails are made every twelve months from hospitals and mental health units in England and Wales. The Medicines and Health Care Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have had reports of 21 bedrail related deaths from 2000 – 2006. Bedside bumpers have been specifically designed to reduce the number of injuries and deaths related to bedside railings entrapment.

Who Could Benefit From Bedside Rail Bumpers?

  • Patients with epilepsy
  • Elderly patients vulnerable to falls
  • Those who suffer from excessive bruising (ecchymosis)
  • Patients who suffer from confusion, agitation or delirium
  • Anyone who experiences repetitive or involuntary movements
  • People with high or low body mass (which may change entrapment risks)
  • People with variable levels of consciousness, or those under sedation

Are the Bedside Rail Bumpers Easy to Fit?

These bumpers use easy to fit hook and loop fastenings along the bottom edge making them straightforward and effortless to set up and secure. The fastening on the bottom edge prevents anyone from accidentally unhooking it, helping to improve patient safety.

Prevent Entrapment and Reduce Risk of Bruising

Patients who suffer from involuntary movements or seizures can easily get their arms trapped in between bed rails or cause limb injury from harsh contact with the rails throughout the night. Connected padded bumpers remove the risk of injury from harsh contact and create a seal to prevent patients pushing their limbs between the bed sides and mattress.

Wipe Clean Material for Effortless Maintenance

Accidents and spillages are common occurrences and it is essential to invest in bumpers that repel liquids or food to prolong their life. These Connected Bedside Bumpers are manufactured from a hydrophobic, wipe clean material that does not absorb liquids or spillages, ensuring maintenance is fast and easy.

Third Rail Extension for Versatile Usability

This model of bedside bumper is versatile and compatible with both two and three rail bedsides, allowing you to adjust and extend the bumper to fit a three rail bed if necessary. It is originally designed for two bar rails and can be extended and secured to fit a three rail bed.
